Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about making outfits, managing your wardrobe, and your account.
Getting started
MyStyle is a free outfit generator that puts together complete, coordinated looks for you. Pick the weather, a style, and how many colors you'd like, and MyStyle builds a matching outfit using a set of customizable rules. You can generate looks from MyStyle's built-in items or from your own wardrobe, and save the ones you like. There's more on our About page.
A few things set us apart:
- It runs entirely in your browser, with nothing to install and no store to visit. Open MyStyle on any phone, tablet, or computer, wherever you are.
- You don't need to photograph anything. Start straight away with built-in items in dozens of colors, and add your own pieces only if you want to.
- It's the most customizable generator out there: exclude colors, items, or whole outfits you don't want, build your own palettes and styles, set accessory rules, and more, so the results keep getting closer to your taste.
- It's free to use.
And because MyStyle follows clear rules that you can shape yourself, you stay in control of the outfits it makes.
Yes, MyStyle is free to use. You can generate outfits, build a wardrobe, and save your favorite looks without paying anything. If you would like to support the project, you can make an optional donation from our About page.
You can use most features without signing in, but anything you create, such as your wardrobe and saved outfits, is only kept for your current browser session and will not be saved permanently. Creating a free account keeps everything safe, so your wardrobe, saved outfits, and settings are waiting for you next time and on any device you sign in from.
Not right now. MyStyle is a web app, so there's nothing to download or install. Just open it in your browser on any device and sign in to find your wardrobe. A dedicated app may come in the future.
Making & saving outfits
On the home page, set your preferences and press Generate. Your options include:
- Weather: matches the outfit to the temperature, from Cold to Hot.
- Style: the occasion or type of look you're dressing for, such as Relaxed, Casual, Business Casual, Formal (or Random).
- Number of colors: how many colors the outfit uses (or Random).
Your outfit appears alongside each piece, its colors, and an action menu. Not quite right? Just press Generate again.
The advanced options give you finer control before you generate:
- Include footwear, outerwear, headwear, or a bag: turn each on or off.
- Only use items from my wardrobe: build looks solely from pieces in your wardrobe.
- Probability for accessories: how likely accessories are to appear.
- Include a specific color, item, palette, or required tag: force the outfit to feature something in particular.
- Use same item types as last generation: keep the same outfit, but swap the individual pieces.
Leave them untouched for a quick result, or combine them to fine-tune the look.
Yes. For any item in a look, use its action menu to remake the outfit without it. MyStyle rebuilds the look, replacing that piece with a suitable alternative or leaving it out. You can repeat this on any item until the whole outfit feels right.
When you generate a look you like, use the outfit's action menu to save it with a name and, if you want, some tags. Saved outfits live under My Outfits, where you can filter them by name, tag, weather, or style, pick one at random, or open any outfit to see its pieces. From there you can jump straight back to the generator to make a similar look.
Almost always, it's because too few items are available to the generator. A few things to check:
- Is Only use items from my wardrobe switched on while your wardrobe is still small? Turn it off, or add more pieces.
- Have you deactivated a lot of wardrobe items? Only active items are used.
- Are your exclusions, or generator settings like a required tag, color, or palette, too narrow? Loosen them.
Adding more items to your wardrobe or relaxing the generator settings usually makes the generator work again.
Your wardrobe
No, adding your own clothes is completely optional. You can generate outfits right away using MyStyle's default items, which come in a wide range of colors. When you do want your real wardrobe, you can add your own items, either with your own picture or using MyStyle's standard items. Add as much or as little as you like, whenever you like.
Automatic background removal works best with a clear, well-lit photo of a single item on a plain background that contrasts with the piece, with the whole item in frame. If the cut-out isn't clean, retaking the photo under those conditions and uploading again usually gives a much better result.
Only active items are used when MyStyle generates outfits. Deactivating a piece, such as something that's out of season or in the wash, keeps it in your wardrobe but leaves it out of new outfits, without deleting it. Reactivate it whenever you want, and you can activate or deactivate several items at once.
In your wardrobe, each item has options to edit its colors and tags or to delete it. You can also filter your wardrobe by category, colors, item type, tag, weather, and whether items are active, and sort by most recently added or alphabetically to find things quickly. Selecting several items lets you delete, activate, or deactivate them together.
Customizing the generator
From any generated outfit's action menu you can exclude its color combination, its item combination, or the whole outfit. MyStyle then avoids those in future generations. You can undo or clear your exclusions any time from your generator settings.
A custom palette is your own set of colors. Pick it in the generator to keep an outfit within those colors. A custom style is your own style option that sits alongside the built-in ones (Relaxed, Casual, Business Casual, Formal). You create both from your profile, and they appear as choices the next time you generate.
Your generator settings hold the more advanced controls:
- Color restrictions: mark colors so only one of them appears in an outfit at a time.
- Accessory dependencies: have an accessory show up only alongside certain items.
- Item restrictions: limit specific items to not carry a color on their own.
Together these let you shape the generator around exactly how you like to dress.
Account, data & preferences
You can sign up with your email address or with your Google account. If you register by email, we'll send a verification link. If it doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder. For your security, several failed sign-in attempts will temporarily lock the account, so just wait a little and try again, or reset your password.
Head to your settings, where you can update your name, email, and password, connect or disconnect accounts like Google, or delete your account entirely. Deleting your account removes it and its associated data.
In your settings you can choose whether you see men's, women's, or all clothing, and manage your cookie preferences, both of which work even if you're not signed in. For the full details of what data we store and how it's handled, see our Privacy Policy.
